Further information about these and other events will be shared with members when available. 

The 2026 summer league season has now come to an end, following another busy year of competitive tennis for Tyldesley Tennis Club. Our teams represented the club in the Bolton Men’s League, Bolton Mixed League, Walkden Mixed League and Leigh Mixed League, with matches taking place throughout the week.

In the Bolton Men’s League, our A Team finished fourth in Division 4 and will remain in the same division next season. The B Team enjoyed an excellent campaign, finishing first in Division 8 and being crowned divisional champions. They will be promoted to Division 7 for the 2027 season.

There was further success in the Bolton Mixed League. The A Team finished as runners-up in Division 3, securing promotion to Division 2 next season. The B Team finished third in Division 5 and will remain in the division for 2027.

In the Walkden Mixed League, the A Team finished third in Division 1, while the B Team ended the season as runners-up in Division 2. Tyldesley’s women also added to the club’s achievements by winning the Walkden League Cup.

Our Leigh Mixed League team finished comfortably in mid-table.

Well done to everyone who represented Tyldesley throughout the season. Thank you to all of our team captains for organising the teams and fixtures, and to the members who played and supported the teams. We look forward to seeing what each team can achieve in the 2027 season.

Tyldesley Tennis Club welcomed members and supporters for this year’s Summer Social and Critchley Cup, bringing together an afternoon of competitive tennis, food and time spent with fellow members.

The Critchley Cup is held in memory of Brian Critchley, a much-loved member of Tyldesley Tennis Club who is greatly missed. The annual competition provides an opportunity for members to remember Brian while taking part in an event that has become an important part of the club calendar.

This year’s competition saw The Red Devils take on Strictly RAF. The contest consisted of two Men’s Doubles, two Ladies’ Doubles and two Mixed Doubles matches, giving players from both teams plenty of opportunities to contribute. The standard of tennis was excellent throughout the day, with several closely contested matches and a strong sense of team spirit both on and off the courts.

After all six matches had been completed, The Red Devils were confirmed as the winners of the 2026 Critchley Cup. Congratulations to everyone who represented both teams and contributed to such an enjoyable and competitive contest.

Alongside the tennis, members and supporters were able to enjoy the club’s Summer Social and barbecue. Special thanks go to Gail for the time and effort she put into organising the event, and to Pantelis for running the barbecue and ensuring everyone was well fed throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who attended, whether they were playing, supporting, organising or helping behind the scenes. The continued support of our members made the Summer Social and Critchley Cup another successful and enjoyable occasion for the club.

Tyldesley Tennis Club was well represented at the 2026 Bolton Tennis Tournament, with a number of our members competing across a range of events throughout the week.

The tournament provided an excellent week of competitive tennis, bringing together players from clubs across the local area. Our members produced some strong performances on court, while also supporting one another from the sidelines and contributing to the friendly atmosphere surrounding the competition.

Particular congratulations go to Holly Wilson and Amy Wilson, who were crowned the 2026 Ladies’ Handicap Doubles Champions.

We would like to congratulate every Tyldesley member who took part in the tournament. Regardless of the final results, it was fantastic to see the club represented across so many events and our players enjoying the opportunity to compete against members of other local clubs.

Finally, our thanks go to the tournament organisers, volunteers and everyone else involved in delivering the event. A great deal of work takes place behind the scenes, and their time and effort helped to make the 2026 Bolton Tennis Tournament another successful and enjoyable week.

Tyldesley Tennis Club was pleased to welcome pupils from local primary schools for this year’s Atherton and Tyldesley Sports Association (ATSA) Tennis Competition.

Ahead of the competition, the children attended an after-school Tennis Taster Session at the club. This gave them an opportunity to become familiar with the courts, practise their skills and prepare for the tournament. They returned the following week to represent their schools in a series of friendly but competitive matches.

It was excellent to see so many local children enjoying tennis and supporting their teammates throughout the event. The competition provided pupils with an opportunity to put their skills into practice, experience playing at a local tennis club and compete alongside children from other schools in the area.

Congratulations to Holy Family Primary School, who were crowned the winners of the 2026 competition following a strong performance across the event.

Tyldesley Tennis Club is pleased to support ATSA in providing sporting opportunities for primary school children across Atherton, Tyldesley and the surrounding areas. Thank you to everyone who helped organise and deliver the sessions, as well as the school staff and pupils who contributed to an enjoyable and successful event.

Tyldesley Tennis Club held another successful social day, bringing members together for an enjoyable programme of tennis and pickleball.

Throughout the day, members took part in social tennis and had the opportunity to try pickleball using the club’s portable equipment. A barbecue was also available, giving everyone time to relax and catch up between games.

One of the highlights was an Australian Open-inspired One Point Tournament. Unlike a traditional tennis match, each contest was decided by a single point, creating a fast-paced competition in which every shot mattered. After progressing through the tournament and holding his nerve in the decisive stages, Steven Howell was crowned the 2026 champion.
